Greetings and welcome to
Senderos' first 2005
newsletter.
Senderos works with special, upmarket South American tourism
products - hotels, lodges and farms - often unique, with a sense of
adventure and off the beaten track. We represent and promote them to
UK tour operators and press. If you have any questions at
all, require brochures or images, or would like to
arrange a visit and presentation please just let me
know.
Senderos is now a proud member of the Latin American
Travel Association (www.lata.org)
Senderos Highlights by Land Rover - ecology and culture
of Brazil's North East www.manary.com.br/ecotours/ingles/index.htm
/ www.senderos.co.uk/partners_brazil_ne.htm Manary Ecotours take their guests
beneath the surface of some of Brazil's most stunning yet little
known attractions. Private land rover journeys with knowledgable
English speaking guides, and staying in charming, friendly
accommodation. The experience combines beautiful colonial towns,
awe-inspiring landscapes, deserted beaches, the finest and freshest
food, and of course meeting the region's warm, hospitable people. A
unique and very special holiday to a part of the world largely
untouched by tourism. In April Manary Ecotours will be
proudly hosting a group of photographers on an Outdoor Photo
Workshop with the famous Brazilian Photographer Araquem Alcantara.
For a look at his exquisite, beautifully crafted images (highly
rec!) of Brazil's people, wildlife and landscapes, go to www.araquem.com.br. Manary
Ecotours' director Eduardo Bagnoli, also a keen photographer and
presently editing two books on the Northeast Brazil, will be their
field guide. Manary Ecotours will be attending BNTM in
Fortaleza, 21-23 April. Pousada Picinguaba, Brazil www.picinguaba.com / www.senderos.co.uk/partners_picinguaba.htm For groups of 4 and more visiting
Pousada Picinguaba we highly recommend a spectacular journey by
helicopter or small aircraft between Rio and Paraty. Not only do
guests benefit from an extra half day at Picinguaba or in Rio but
its a truly breathtaking trip to/from Rio's convenient city airport,
Santos Dumont. The plane, a King Air C90, takes just 25
minutes and carries up to 7 passengers, while the MacDonald Douglas
500 helicopter, carrying 3 passengers, takes 45 minutes.
Please contact Simon or Emmanuel for rates, models and
images. Estancia Huechahue, Argentina www.senderos.co.uk/partners_huechahue.htm The estancia's 2 new rooms were
finished in November last year, bringing the total to 8 (all en
suite); Jane will still only accept a maximum of 16 guests at any
time meaning that she need generally not use the main house and is
also more able to accommodate guests requesting single rooms.
Huechahue also now has a rustic swimming pool (cold water for
cooling off after hot dusty days) and a much loved jacuzzi for use
in conjunction with ibruprofen to ease away those riding aches and
pains! Since September Jane has also been joined by Yvonne
who is Anglo-Argentine, bilingual and an experienced rider. She's
great with the guests and helps Huechahue keep providing that
special, personalised service. Prices for the 2005 / 2006
season will stay at GB £ 125 per person per night (gross), dates for
pack trips have yet to be confirmed.
Availability...
The week 12 to 20 Feb Huechahue has lots
of space owing to some cancellations. Program includes a 3 day
(2 nights camping) pack trip.
Also space from 9 Mar to 25 Mar. 18 to 25 Mar has
3 day pack trip, and so does 9 - 18 Mar (pack trip 16 - 18
Mar).
Plenty of space from the 28 March onwards.
From the 28 March to 4 April Jane will run the
program including what will probably be the last cattle
drive she does back from Lolog!
Estancia-based programs still have plenty of
rounding up of cattle and horses for those who want, there's
very good fishing and the chance to help with deer
cull. |
Tambopata Research Centre,
Peru www.perunature.com / www.senderos.co.uk/partners_tambopata.htm
The new Tambopata Research Centre,
400 metres from the current site, is 80% complete. It will be
essentially the same as the original lodge (where guests are still
staying until March) but slightly bigger with 17 rooms, shared
facilities and the same trail system. The continued philiosophy is
that tourism, research and conservation work extremely well together
and even positively influence each other, and this symbiosis has
been very successful since the project began in 1989.
In
April, Rainforest Expeditions will also begin work on a new lodge on
the Rio Tambopata, 1 1/2 hours from Puerto Maldonado (40 minutes
from Posada Amazonas). More details to
follow.
Puyuhuapi Lodge and Spa, Chile www.patagonia-connection.com
/ www.senderos.co.uk/partners_puyuhuapi.htm
Puyuhuapi Lodge and Spa now has 5
guides resident in the lodge in additon to the catamaran guide,
allowing guests to personalise their stay with a choice of
activities (included in the price of the program). There are a range
of walks to suit all levels of fitness, kayak trips in the bay and
mountain biking along the Carretera Austral. Coupled with great
service, excellent food and facilities, the lodge (and its catamaran
to Laguna San Rafael!) is the perfect base for experiencing the wild
scenery of Chilean Patagonia.
As of next month (Feb 05)
guests on program PC1 will be also offered the option of a lovely
horseride on the Saturday of their stay (minimum 3 guests, US$ 120
pp). Guests will travel 1 1/2 hours by road, and then 15 kms on
horseback crossing a river and entering deep into the beautiful
Patagonian countryside, enjoying lunch in the home of a local
farmer.
Puyuhuapi Lodge and Spa can also organise fly
fishing in a variety of rivers, further details including prices on
request.
