Suasi Island, Lake Titicaca, Peru
Built of stone, adobe and totora reed, this Casa Andina Private
Collection hotel shelters below flower-strewn terraces on a private
island on the worlds highest navigable lake. Suasi operates from
solar energy, vast Lake Titicaca is observed from every one of
25 rooms (24 + private Andean cottage), and its 106 acres are
home to 3 of the 4 South American camelids.
The rooms are comfortable, there is a sauna, fireplaces warm the
communal areas, and an Andean Cultural Interpretation Centre opened
in 2005, including a small museum and excellent library. The restaurant
features a menu, prepared by one of Peru’s best chefs, fusing
Andean ingredients with modern cooking techniques.
Suasi Island is a unique experience of the high Andes. www.casa-andina.com/suasi
