A voyage from Argentina to the Antarctic
Simon Heyes, Founding Director, recently embarked on an epic voyage.
From Argentina to the Antarctic peninsula, this adventurous trip connects the dots between three sustainable and conservation-focused Senderos partners.
Below captures a glimpse of the rugged landscape, awe-inspiring wildlife and memorable people snapped by the man himself; as well as some of his diary entries that describe these pockets of paradise.
A 3-part journey, Simon visited…
Diary entries at Bahia Bustamante…
“I’m astounded – yet again – by Argentina’s extraordinary beauty, diversity and charming people! I journeyed a week ago to Bahia Bustamante, where 360 degrees of pure Patagonia meet an ocean teeming with marine biodiversity.”

“It’s been 2 happy days rammed full with encounters with sea lions, penguins, rheas, guanacos, armadillos, maras, caracaras, as well as a profusion of sea birds. In another sublime moment we also spotted a Minke whale off the coast. The vital ingredient of this unique place are the people. Gracias Matias, Pablo, Marina, Laura, Victoria, Astrid.” Simon Heyes

Diary entry at Las Balsas…
‘Travelling 1000 kms to the North West, I’ve travelled to the vast shimmering ‘Nahuel Huapi’ Lake beneath the shadow of the Andes. A pretty town, Villa La Angostura hosts our partner Las Balsas, a proud B Corp member.’

‘I am staying in one of the 6 brand-new, stunningly designed villas – my room is called ‘Reflejo’ – which reflects and frames the natural surroundings here, beech trees and the lake beyond. Incredibly welcoming staff, with a Spa and absolutely superb food.’
‘The best local guides complete the experience here – a wonderful sunset sailing with Captain Adrián and Manu, followed the next day by a hike to Centinela for sublime views of the lake and Andes range beyond with mountain guide Lola.’ Simon Heyes

Diary entry onboard Polar Latitudes…
‘I’m writing this as we cross the Drake Passage, with the White Continent now behind us, it’s the perfect time to begin to reflect on the fabulous days aboard our floating base camp ‘Seaventure’.

The Antarctic ‘Bivy’ and sea kayaking were personal highlights. Camping out surrounded by ice and snow-clad mountains, while penguins and seals chattered during the long sunset. A sublime window of weather before 50-knot winds blew in only a few hours later.
Being so up-close and personal with the icebergs in a kayak is about as magical as it gets. Not to forget the very special encounter with a humpback whale and penguins in every possible direction.’
