Expedition cruising – from Amsterdam to Antarctica

On the way to Antarctica…..

Just before the 2023 Antarctic season began, Polar Latitudes’ ship Seaventure stopped in Amsterdam for pre-polar dry dock service and maintenance. Gareth, Naomi and a number of invited tour ops were lucky enough to join the PL team for a night on board.

We toured the ship including the bridge:

Ate delicious food

Listened to excellent presentations from PL President John McKeon, Citizen Science leader Dr Annette Gombosch  and Expedition Leader Hannah Lawson.

And were treated to a tour of the dry dock itself to see the ship from underneath.

Its A1 ice class (top rating for a passenger ship) became really apparent, as did the build quality of this ship, which was crafted in Japan from high quality steel.

Then we enjoyed drinks on the helipad:

There was also Karaoke – but we’ve been sworn to secrecy about that!

With operators from Swoop, Steppes, Humboldt and many more joining us,  it was a really useful 24 hours in which to get familiar with the ship and understand those key points of difference that make an expedition cruise to Antarctica with Polar Latitudes really special.

Thanks PL!
