Pousada Tutabel

Located on the quiet outskirts of trendy Bahia beach town Trancoso, Pousada Tutabel is an intimate, bare-foot luxury hotel, with the feel of a private beach house. Sitting on the edge of Itapororoca Beach, there are 18 airy and bright suites which all come with the calming sound of waves on the beach just a few metres away. All suites and residences have king-size beds, Trousseau sheets, towels and bathrobes, locally made and 100% natural soaps, air conditioning, a safe and a minibar. Hotel facilities include a swimming pool, a gym and sauna. On the beach guests can enjoy stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking and snorkelling at low tide in the pools, as well as beach tennis and guided surfing nearby.

Excursions here include venturing into a nearby stretch of Atlantic Rainforest which is protected in perpetuity by the hotel’s owners, the RPPN Rio do Brasil. As well as beach activities, birdwatching and star gazing tours are available, plus a special “It comes from the Earth” sensory forest tour for children which shows how everyday things are connected to the earth. Food plays a central role in Bahian culture and at Pousada Tutabel the gastronomy is infused with local flavours, colours and aromas. Ingredients are sourced from local farms with a preference for organic, seasonal produce. It takes just 15 minutes to get to the centre of Trancoso and its famous Quadrado, home to colourful old houses, sophisticated restaurants, bars and charming boutiques.

Senderos Soul

Tutabel calls itself a Pousada with 'a foot-in-the-sand, head-in-the-clouds' overlooking stunning Itapororoca Beach, Trancoso’s finest. I had to drag myself away from its turquoise seas to head inland to explore the 1000 hectare private conservation reserve Rio do Brasil. Bird watching with brilliant guides through the forest, and then by kayak meandering down through mangroves to the ocean. That evening drinks on Trancoso’s atmospheric Quadrado and soughdough pizza at Tutebar completed a magical Bahian experience.
